This is a very thought provoking question. One that will cause a deep dive into your inner-self and can differ from person to person. When you examine yourself and see what has power over you, that thing or those things can be what is hindering you from building the relationship with God and can derail your journey toward salvation.

In our world today there are so many things that can rule over you. Money, drugs, alcohol, gambling and so on, the list is endless. Having control of your mind and body is highly important when it comes to serving God as stated in Proverbs 25:28. We as servants of God must control our minds, behaviors and actions and bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5. Also the bible teaches us to seek the kingdom of god first and its righteousness Matthew 6:33. The apostle Paul in Colossians 3:1-7 Tells us to "Set your affections on things above not on things on the earth" as well as to "Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth".
In closing we all know the daily battles within and the fight to overcome our own issues and this world. Those things that have power over you can possibly keep you from eternal life. So as you go through your day and strive for a relationship with God, is there something that has rule over you?
